GUWAHATI, March 2 - Loka Manthan – a folk band of the Indian Peoples’ Theatre Association (IPTA) – with the objective of promoting the State’s multi-hued folk culture will stage its maiden show at Rabindra Bhawan at 4 pm and 6.15 pm on March 6.
Addressing a press conference, Nayan Prasad, convener, Loka Manthan, and noted singers Sudakshina Sarma and Tarali Sarma, today said that Loka Manthan would proceed with a vision and carry the message of peace and brotherhood, besides striving to promote and popularise folk songs, folk dance forms, folk instruments and folk culture in general among the masses, especially the youths.
“Loka Manthan will be a permanent and professional body that will endeavour to maintain the purity and uniqueness of Assamese folk culture in its myriad forms. We will promote our folk culture across the country and abroad,” the artistes said.
Sadou Asom Bihu Sanmilani Samannayrakshi Samiti and Sadou Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani have welcomed the initiative and assured Loka Manthan of all possible assistance.
