THE RESOLUTION PASSED AGAINST THREAT OF COMMUNAL FASCISM BY JOINT COMPAIGN COMMITEE OF WRITERS AND CULTURAL ORGANISATIONS AT THE BEHEST OF P.W.A ,I.P.T.A , JALES AND JASAM ON 9TH APRIL 2014 AT VARANASI
The parliamentary elections in 2014 are being held in a situation where a typical combination of corporate, media and fascist forces have combined on the issue of so called development which in last more than two decades has increased the miseries of farmers, advisis, dalits, minorities, women and working class as a whole and has widened the gap between affluent and deprived classes.
The model being projected has deep rooted disrespect to centuries old composite culture, unity in diversity, harmony and anti-imperialistic secular legacy of our freedom struggle . Never before the so called free media has come out in such a big way to manufacture consent in favour of this model openly and discretely supported by some communal swamis and religious gurus.
This model has specifically chosen Varanasi as their next center after Ayodhya and Gujrat to carry forward their soft fascist hindutva agenda under the leadership of Narendra Modi. If allowed to succeed, this model of 'SANGH PARIVAR' shall not only lead to chaos, disintegration, social- disharmony but shall also result in curbing basic democratic rights and privileges earned by deprived sections of the society within the framework of our constitution. There is no space for serious literature, culture, scientific temperament, freedom of expression, issues related to international brotherhood, peace, disarmament and environment in this model.
We the writers, artists, social and cultural activists are of the firm opinion that this model of hatred, violence and of many hidden agendas is anti- people. We know that Varanasi , since ages being a seat of our cultural ethos and free intellectual discourse shall not allow the chief propagator of this model to succeed. We call upon the electorate of Varanasi and of whole country to defeat this model of divisive and communal forces and to elect a pro people alternative.
