Cuttack 27th March 2013 : World Theatre Day was celebrated at Cuttack, Odisha by IPTA among hundreds of artists and intellectuals. Prominent theatre personality Kartik Prasad Rath spoke about the importance of World Theatre Day vis-a-vis the important role played by theatre movement at the present day situation of Globalization.
Ramesh Padhy, state IPTA secretary read out the WTDay message-2013 written by DARIO FO, international theatre personality and noble award laureate of Italy. The Cuttack branch of Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) screened “Rubina ra Jamanbandi”, a play written and directed by Shri Puranjan Roy on the occasion of World Theatre Day at Satabdi Bhawan. The play with a communal riot in the backdrop studies the aftermath of the riot and its consequences on the people who have suffered and survived it.
Senior advocate, Odisha High Court Shri Ashok Mukherjee inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Secretary, IPTA, Cuttack Smt Krushnapriya Mishra gave a brief introduction about World Theatre Day which was followed by a dance rendition in Odissi by child artistes of IPTA, Cuttack.
Eminent playwright and director Dr Kartik Chandra Rath illuminated audience on the importance of the day. The core organizing team comprised IPTA members Sasmita Beura, Niharika Dash, Laxmidhar Das, Laxmi Karmakar and Susanta Mohapatra. The programme was attended by people from several walks of life including dignitaries, intellectuals, artistes and students.
